Introduction to the Cobbossee Watershed
Nestled in the heart of Kennebec County, Maine, the Cobbossee Watershed is a vital ecosystem that sustains not only the local wildlife but also the communities surrounding it. The Cobbossee Watershed Association (CWA) exists to preserve this precious area by ensuring the water quality remains high, thus supporting recreation and biodiversity in the region.
Our Objectives
The primary purpose of the Cobbossee Watershed Association is to improve the water quality of Pleasant Pond and the Cobbosseecontee Stream. We focus on various initiatives aimed at protecting this natural resource from pollution and other threats. Additionally, we work diligently to eradicate aquatic invasive species (AIS) that pose a significant risk to both the habitat and property values in the area. Our programs involve research, education, and community involvement, ensuring we address these challenges effectively.
Community Involvement
Our association is proud to include members from four towns: Gardiner, Litchfield, Richmond, and West Gardiner. This collaboration fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility toward the stewardship of our beautiful lakes and streams. We encourage local residents to join us in our mission by participating in events, workshops, and volunteer activities aimed at protecting our aquatic environments. Together, we can make a difference and preserve the Cobbossee Watershed for future generations.
