Steering Committee

The PPCSLA Steering Commitee is guiding the development of the lake association in our first year and has crafted the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that govern our activities as an organization. We are currently preparing a 3-year strategic plan to guide the development of the PPCSLA going forward through FY 2028. Each committee member is a volunteer and represents a different area of the lake and stream so that we have a balance of viewpoints and very localized knowledge. We meet approximately once per month. Minutes of our Steering Committee meetings are available upon request to dues paying members of the PPCSLA. In November, 2025, the committee filed an application with the Maine State Secretary of State’s office to become incorporated as a registered nonprofit corporation. Now approved by Maine, we have applied to become an IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit. Scroll down to learn more about each Steering Committee member. NOTE: A Board of Directors will be elected by the membership at our next Annual Gathering in July, 2026, to replace the current Steering Committee. Any member in good standing is eligible to stand for election to the Board. We highly encourage anyone interested in serving on the board to stand for election.

Meet Our Steering Committee Members

GREG ANDERSON, PRESIDENT

I have lived on Pleasant Pond since March, 2020. I retired in 2021 after working for 35 years as a biology lab instructor and electron microscopy technician at Bates College.  My formal training, in Fisheries Science (BS, MS – Univ. of Washington, Seattle), is relevant to many of the issues we face in the Cobbossee Watershed. In addition to leading the PPCSLA, I serve as a Litchfield Trustee on the Cobbossee Watershed District Board, as a board member for the Watershed Friends, and as a Litchfield representative on the New Mills Dam Committee. Lastly, I am a volunteer water clarity (Secchi depth) monitor on the main basin of Pleasant Pond for the Cobbossee Watershed District. I look forward to building a strong lake association and working with our community to protect and preserve our beautiful stream and lake, and the entire Cobbossee Watershed. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the PPCSLA: anderson.gregoryj.me-at-gmail.com

CAROLYN BULLINER
VICE PRESIDENT

The Bulliner family has had property on Pleasant Pond since the late 1800’s. Since 1975, I’ve had a camp on Military Lane which is close to the outlet of the Cobbosseecontee Stream.  After retiring from the Army Nurse Corps in 2000, I was finally able to move from DC to Brunswick and now enjoy regularly wandering up to camp 3 seasons a year.

PATSY DICKINSON
SECRETARY

I have lived on Pleasant Pond in Litchfield since the summer of 2020. I am currently retired from Bowdoin College, where I taught Neuroscience and Biology for about 40 years. I enjoy a variety of activities on the pond; these include swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding, as well as walking and skating on the ice in the winter.

BETH WHALON
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR

In April 1992, my husband, Paul, and I moved into our place along Cobbosseecontee Stream. Our spot along the stream is unique in that we are located along the stream, at the head of Horseshoe Pond and have a gorgeous marsh behind our place. These three ecosystems attract lots of wildlife to our area, which we love!  Paul and I enjoy exploring the waterway in all seasons, from swimming in summer, paddling spring through fall, and in winter we skate, ski and snowshoe. We feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area!  We are excited to be part of the new stream and lake association, which is dedicated to preserving and protecting the entire stream (all 16 miles of it!), and its ponds and marshlands from aquatic invasive species and water quality challenges for today and for future generations.

TIM BURR

I have been a PGA Professional in the golf industry since 1996, dedicating my career to growing the game and serving my community through golf.  My commitment to giving back has been a central part of my career, including serving as President of the NCPGA Foundation, where I worked to advance initiatives that support youth, military veterans, and individuals with disabilities by providing access to golf and impactful community programs.  My wife and I bought our home on Pleasant Pond in 2017 from her grandmother who had been living there since the early 1970’s. We love our lake and I look forward to being able to give back and help protect it.

MARTY NAAS

Marty has lived on Pleasant Pond (Richmond) for 28 years on land that has been in his wife’s family since 1896.  He is a retired music educator with a 38 year career including 16 years at Gardiner Area High School.  In retirement, Marty takes full advantage of all that Pleasant Pond has to offer in all seasons. Look for Marty out sailing in summer and riding his bike on the ice in winter.

NATE MARSHALL

I am a new arrival to Pleasant Pond (May 2025), where I now live near the Thorofare Road boat launch in Litchfield. I am an environmental scientist with an environmental consulting firm, and I work on several aspects of aquatic ecosystems, including assessments for aquatic invasive species. I moved from Ohio to Maine with my wife, who is a faculty member at Bates College, and we’re thrilled to call Maine home.  I am excited to be a part of the PPCSLA Steering Committee and to promote a healthy Cobbossee Watershed.

MARY PARKER

We have lived on the north end of Pleasant Pond for the past 10 years. We live off of Spring Cove Lane in Gardiner. Just recently our camp has been transitioned into a year round home. My family still resides in Brunswick but we spend as much time as possible at camp. We’re the one’s that have been hosting the annual summer Concert on the Pond. We love it here!

SARAH THACHER

My adventures in Pleasant Pond and Cobbosseecontee Stream began in 1975. My “comfort zone” and “safe place” has always been any waters that harbor fish, wildlife, and the privacy of surrounding forests. When my children were young we annually rented a camp on Pleasant Pond. This became our tradition. In 2010 I saw a camp for sale that was located on the Stream in Litchfield. When I went to see the property I recognized where I’d always caught a lot of fish and that sold me. I became involved with Friends of Cobbossee and witnessed the removal of AIS. In May 2025 I retired from my 50+ years of being a professional psychotherapist. I had the privilege of meeting Greg Anderson and showing him some of the worst AIS I had ever encountered. I am very grateful to be part of the PPCSLA team and look forward to learning ways of improving our watershed.
